1.
What do you call a dream that you wish you didn't have? Is it a nightmare if it made you whole? I could never understand, but I'm not wiser than I was. You might be the one if you can last. Don't rely on me. Tangled with another 'neath the covers where we work. If I squint, her face just might be yours. I was never like this, but take the bull by the horns. If I don't sow myself I might burst. And when I feel the heat, it comes as no surprise It's often far away from your patient waiting eyes. I wish I felt complete, but this hunger pulls me in. Strung out on a wire, creaking hunger pulls me thin.

Walking back from your house, it's crazy I know. Leaving footprints behind in fallen snow. Don't know why, Hope to die, Found out again I can't trust in what I know. How did the hang the moon so high in the sky? Thousand of stars winking back saying, "Don't even try." Waiting for you to, Say you're in it too. But you're waiting for that silver lining That's waiting for me too. My breath hanging in the air like curtains drawn, Will the play begin or will it pass on along?
3.
Another day, another dime Another dollar store crime. It's a shame, it's a lie, but it's the only thing keeping us alive. But they wouldn't take me back and neither should you. She hates me face Hates my guys It's been the law since I first pulled up. She wanted more than life affords Or another trip down to the store. Couldn't be good enough and that's the truth. Said that I'm the worst thing that's ever happened to you. But would you need me by your side if I can't even learn to cry? Who'll be there to hold you tight when the bottom falls out. Would you need me by your side or are you just gonna run and hide? Who'll be there to hold you tight when the bottom falls out? Broken hearts by the floor, Broken face crumpled by the door. I'd shed a tear for you, Lord knows it'd be the decent thing to do. Life was never this hard, so why am I? Can't even stand to look me in the eye.
4.
I think we've been out at sea too long, chased the horizon like our Fathers did. An endless ocean, as far as we can see. We've never seen the land, so why bother believe? But if there's no place to go, and no light to beckon us home, Will we never know comfort nor safety? Will there be a port in the storm? Sons were born with the dreaming, Left ourselves in letters never sent. But what of the words laid bare? Or all the hands we lost there? I don't know why I grip this rope so tight. Coarse fibers in my hand will never be earth under my feet. But maybe if I squeeze hard enough, I will remember. I will remember. And every time I looked around, I saw your face.
